Parent Update regarding strike action

27th January 2023

Dear Parents,

Further to my message to you on Monday 23rd January regarding the industrial action being taken by the NEU, we now have a clearer picture of what the disruption will look like for St Anne's.  We would rather make decisions with as much time as possible for families to prepare for it.

Due to the numbers of teachers telling us they are planning on taking industrial action, it is highly likely that we will not able to keep the school open safely on Wednesday 1st February for all pupils and so we plan on a partial closure.

Year 11

Year 11 should come to school on Wednesday 1st February as usual. They will have normal lessons where their teacher is not striking. They will be supervised safely to conduct general revision work for the subject in classes where their teacher is striking. All normal expectations apply such as school uniform.

Other year groups

Other year groups are to remain at home and learning will be set on Teams. Where their teacher is not striking they will set work on Teams and be available online to support your child's learning remotely during the hour when they would have had their lesson. If their teacher is striking, children can complete general work that will be set on their year group page on Teams and can also be found on our website here.

Vulnerable children and children of key workers

To support those that need it most, the school site will be available for vulnerable children and the children of critical workers in years 7, 8, 9, 10, 12, and 13. They will work in computer rooms on the same work as those studying remotely. If families that meet this criteria would like to make use of this provision, please register your child by midday on Monday 30th January. This allows us to ensure we can safeguard your children as we will know who to expect on the strike day. Please complete this form.

Free School Meals

We want to make sure that pupils on free school meals have access to food on the day if they want it. Packed lunches will be available to be picked up from reception from 12:30. If you would like to make use of this: please complete this form by midday on Monday 30th January. You do not need to complete this form if your child is onsite on the day. The canteen will be open for those pupils as usual.

Intermediate Maths Challenge

This was scheduled to take place on Wednesday 1st February. If your child was taking part in this, we have decided to move it to Thursday 2nd February to ensure that they still can.

If you have any questions or concerns regarding the plans for next week, please contact your child's head of year.

All the best
