The Sixth Form

An A level qualifi cation in Drama and Theatre Studies can help you to develop your career path. You can continue to study drama at degree level and use it as a combination with a range of subjects including: English, Psychology, Media and other arts-based subjects such as History and Law. The close-knit collaborative approaches, directorial experience and addressing an audience can help towards further projects which involve group work, public speaking and leadership opportunities. Theatre Studies students have pursued careers in the following areas: drama, media, economics, law, social work, speech therapy, make-up for television, public relations and teaching.

Drama and Theatre Studies will help you to widen your knowledge of a range of play texts from both pre twentieth century and contemporary playwrights. You will also have the opportunity to explore both drama and theatre through testing your experience as an informed audience member and your own personal development of stage techniques when performing devised work, set texts or part of a play.

Extra-curricular activities include regular theatre visits both locally and to London to see a range of theatre. This will give you the opportunity to enhance your understanding of how performers, designers and directors communicate meaning to an audience.

Entry requirements

Grade B and above in Drama GCSE required. If this has not been taken then individuals may be admitted in discussion with the Head of Department.

Assessment

The course is assessed through a mixture of written work, practical performance and written exam.
